This project consists of a run-of-river 12.4 MW hydropower project, including a c.300m powerline to connect to an existing powerline. The total length of the infrastructure is c.3 km. This project is located in the southern area of the Bururi Forest Reserve in Burundi, East Africa, which is one of the last two remaining strongholds in the country for Endangered eastern chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii). This hydropower project is being developed by Tembo Power Ltd. Tembo Power has acquired a loan from the IFC and, hence, contacted the ARRC Task Force in August 2023 to align with IFC PS6.
