Baomahun Gold Project

The Baomahun Gold Project is expected to become the first large-scale gold mine in Sierra Leone, West Africa. The project overlaps partly with the Kangari Hills Forest Reserve, which is also a Key Biodiversity Area (KBA), although the exact boundaries of the reserve have not been clearly demarcated. There has been a long history of illegal artisanal gold mining in the area and in the Kangari Hills Forest Reserve. The government approved in 2008 the ESIA for this project, which was submitted by the previous permit holders. FG Gold Limited acquired the permit in 2021 and redid an ESIA, which highlighted the potential presence of the Critically Endangered western chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes verus) and other threatened primates. FG Gold Limited reached out to the ARRC Task Force to align with IFC PS6 and signed our MoU in September 2025.
